Iowa's Crowded House Fields: A Study in Contrasts

In the district rated Likely R, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, the Republican, has outraised Democrat Christina Bohannan by roughly $157,000, but Miller-Meeks has spent nearly $2.9 million against Bohannan's $1.73 million — a disbursement rate that has left the Republican with $4.69 million on hand versus Bohannan's $5.43 million. Despite raising more, Miller-Meeks is burning cash faster and now trails in cash reserves.

A second Iowa contest shows a similar dynamic: Republican Zach Nunn has spent $1.35 million of his $4.87 million raised, while Democrat Sarah Trone Garriott has spent $1.43 million of $5.29 million raised, leaving Nunn with $3.57 million on hand to Trone Garriott's $3.86 million.

Further down the fundraising tier, Republican Joe Mitchell has spent $1.04 million of $1.94 million raised — more than half his total receipts — leaving just $895,564 on hand, the tightest cash position relative to fundraising among the top-tier candidates in this data.

Governor's Races to Watch This Fall

Beyond next week's primaries, several governor's races remain competitive enough to warrant close attention. Georgia and Ohio are both rated Toss-up, the tightest tier on the board. A cluster of races lean toward one party without being settled: Michigan, Minnesota, and New Mexico lean Democratic, while Florida and Kansas lean Republican.
