Biography

Bennie Thompson is an American politician and educator who has represented Mississippi's 2nd congressional district since 1993. He previously served as chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023, becoming the first Democrat and first African American to hold that position. Thompson is currently the only Democrat in Mississippi's congressional delegation and the dean of the state's delegation.
