# Kshama Sawant Kshama Sawant is an Indian-American economist and socialist politician who served on the Seattle City Council from 2014 to 2024, where she was the first elected member of Socialist Alternative. Running as an Independent, she is seeking election to the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington's 9th Congressional District.
