Addison Mitchell McConnell III is an American politician and attorney who has served as Kentucky's senior U.S. Senator since 1985, making him the longest-serving senator in the state's history. He is currently in his seventh Senate term and previously served as Senate Republican leader from 2007 to 2025, including as majority leader from 2015 to 2021. McConnell holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history.
