# Benjamin Sasse Benjamin Sasse is a Republican politician and academic administrator who served Nebraska in the U.S. Senate from 2015 to 2023, when he resigned to become president of the University of Florida. During his Senate tenure, he was notably one of seven Republican senators to vote to convict former President Donald Trump during his second impeachment trial. Sasse holds a Ph.D. in American history and has held leadership positions in both government and higher education.
