Biography

Nydia Velázquez is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives currently serving New York's 7th congressional district, a position she has held since 2013. She previously represented New York's 12th district from 1993 to 2013 and served as chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus from 2009 to 2011. Velázquez is the first Puerto Rican woman elected to Congress.
